Aegle marmelos (bael) is traditionally valued both as a medicinal and a nutraceutical plant. This review summarises its medicinal and therapeutic uses, with focus on traditional applications in the management of various diseases. A. Marmelos is used to treat conditions such as diabetes, inflammation, gastrointestinal disorders and oxidative stress, and almost all parts of the plant (roots, bark, flowers, leaves and fruits) are reported to have important medicinal properties. The plant exhibits a wide range of pharmacological activities, including antimicrobial, anti‑inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant and wound‑healing effects, which help to rationalise these uses. “The review highlights the traditional use of bael preparations for complaints such as constipation, fever and heart palpitations, further emphasizing its therapeutic versatility.” Bael fruit pulp provides several vitamins and minerals, and some studies indicate that bark extracts can show marked cytotoxic effects.
