Abstract:

This review aims to highlight the value of various herbal and combined herbal remedies that have been traditionally used to treat diabetes. In recent years, herbal medicine has grown rapidly in popularity worldwide due to its natural origin and lower risk of side effects compared to synthetic drugs. This review brings together detailed information on medicinal plants used for treating diabetes, covering nearly 10% of the global population affected by this condition—and this number continues to rise.

The review includes details about each plant’s scientific and family names, the parts used, test models, hypoglycaemic (blood-sugar-lowering) effects, and active compounds. A total of 20plant species from 12 families are discussed, showing the crucial role of herbal plants in diabetes treatment. These plants can help delay complications from diabetes and correct metabolic imbalances. This research encourages further studies on medicinal plants with antidiabetic properties.
